Blackberry Picking

The lane leading to Jardins des Thevenets is lined with Blackberry bushes. One afternoon Tami, Kelly and Susan came back with handfuls of berries. They were so delicious we decided to return and pick a few bowls of them for breakfast.
On the walk we passed century old buildings.
Bits of  pieces of charm littered the path.
Windows were dressed with graceful branches and wild roses .
There were flowers everywhere.
Even the barn has that certain French charm:-)

Tami found the choicest berries.
Kelly managed to look chic even though she was being pricked.....
We used the berries for breakfast, served in a large compote dish they were a lovely addition to the yogurt.
They were so sweet we decided to use them for these delicious dessert verrines. Layers of berries, whipped cream and Speculos cookies were a light but satisfying sweet. As Lynn would say, "It was sufficient."

  1. I do miss blackberry picking. Half of them ended up in my mouth and not the basket but the ones that did were so good!!! Often just yogurt and maple syrup and I was in heaven... your friends look like they wee having a great time!

  2. (sigh) you are all having way too much fun (sigh)(moan)(envy)

  3. And there's a delish recipe for creme de mure in the book you got Lynn last year. The same one that we have. We haven't made any since we moved here...:-(

  4. I'm drooling! Oh that sounds so much fun picking wild berries. Looks like your fried Kelly enjoyed it so much. ^_^ Have a great weekend.

  5. we used to do this as kids in the mountains and this summer I was checking the side of the road to see if the berries were ripe yet. Love these berries and like your friend says, who needs more than a bowl of them with some cream and a few broken up speculoos?

  6. I just love blackberries. There's actually a wild patch near our house, if you can believe it, right in the middle of SF!

  7. How did I miss this post, Pam? You're in my sidebar, which I try to be good about checking;) Ooh, and I so wish I could go blackberry picking. They are Cauldron Boy's favorite berry!
p.s. I think whip cream is a berry's best friend (smile)...

  8. You're so lucky to be able to pick your own blackberries, especially accompanied with excited children.

Hope you have a safe and happy 2011!
